could feel the movement of the shift mechanism, hard to describe and found it annoying. Strange feedback through the clutch lever when shifting gears. Engine heat was not an issue at all and I spent some time in traffic and it was a hot day. Forward foot position loaded my tailbone which is a known issue for me. I've not read one review commenting on this which suprises me. Raised windshield and it was reduced but still unacceptable for me. and the helmet buffeting was dramatic, actually lost a pair of reading glasses I had tucked into my shirt collar. Spent 30 minutes at highway speed and could have gone longer but realized that quickly that it was a poor fit for me. Rode one yesterday, dealer in Charlotte was pleased to allow the Transcontinental he has in stock accrue a few miles. It's a great time to be a buyer in the touring bike class, I'm sure I'd love a new Venture, or Wing, but for now am still enjoying the '16 RGU (traded the '13 for it in '15) too much to be bothered.

Another huge plus for owning a Harley too I might ad, if you've ever spent two unplanned days in a hotel waiting for a another brand dealer to open it's painfully obvious. She liked the seat test enough to do the test ride, when we got back to the dealer she said it was not quite as comfy as the Wing, but it was plenty good enough. Much to my dismay the only dealer open on Sunday was our local Harley dealer. I thought I was gonna buy a new Victory XCT for a 2up trip in '13, but my wife hated the passenger area, she loved the used Wing we test rode with a Russell seat on it, but the banks closed that Saturday before we got the deal done. I wholeheartedly agree with letting your wife play a big role in this decision. The TC model has heated everything for rider, and passenger which may be a plus for you as well. The Venture's ability to let the passenger listen to their own music, make private calls, yet still be in communication with the rider is a big plus the others don't have (unless the new Wing does). The rest of the folks there had a big chuckle over the suggestion though. The Yamaha rep didn't seem too concerned about it, but damn sure didn't like my suggestion of letting one tip over to see how it fared either. Loved the bike, my only real apprehension is the lack of tip over protection. They weren't allowing test rides on them unfortunately. I got to do the park assist in fwd, and rev on the Venture when they unveiled it at Americade last year.

You guys should google this bike and read about all the stuff these things do. My biggest fear is that they'll discontinue them. Like nothing I've ever ridden!! Yamaha also has a stellar reputation for customer service. It's designed for a short shift (2,500 - 3,000 rpm) because it develops SO MUCH power between shifts. It just creates better throttle response. You can be doing 80 down the freeway and hit. It has a sport mode and a tour mode switch on the right handlebar controls. It also has a gear driven reverse and it works bitchin! I'm reading the book a little every night. John would have it figured out in minutes. Also, if you don't need or want the lastest and greatest, buy used and you will have tons of leftover money for your trip. Reviews have been positive on the Venture. I wouldn't worry so much about first year teething issues as warranties will cover misfortune. My advise is to shop with the Wifey and have her sit on it with you. I always like bikes and cars that aren't 'Me Too' vehicles.
